Tournament Details

Below are some final details as we gear up for the 5th Annual Patriot Games Classic, which will feature over 600 students from over 70 schools! Please read this email carefully for details regarding the tournament.

Registration:
Registration will take place at the Fair Oaks Marriott on Friday night from 7pm-9pm in the Mount Vernon room. A reception for coaches and judges will follow from 9pm-11pm.
For those who cannot register Friday night, we will have a registration available Saturday morning from 8am-9am in the lobby of Robinson B.
Please email student tournament director, Katie Miller at katiemiller3@juno.com ASAP to indicate which registration your school would prefer to attend.

Entry Fees:
You should have already received a statement indicating how much your school owes for the tournament. If at all possible, please make checks payable to Peter Pober (if you’ve already cut your check to George Mason University, that is fine).
A gentle reminder that all tournament fees are due at registration. Schools submitting purchase orders will be asked to provide a private check that we will hold until the school check arrives.

Schedule:
The schedule for the tournament has been posted at our blog: http://www.gmupatriotgames.blogspot.com Please note that the schedule has changed in two ways:
1. There will be no Original Oratory round robin, so the awards ceremony now starts earlier at 7:30pm
2. We will be flighting the first two rounds of Public Forum debate. Rounds 1 and 2 will feature a flight A and a flight B. Rounds 3 and 4 will be single-flighted.

Tournament Postings and Schematics:
Schools will receive a set of tournament schematics at registration, and copies of schematics will be available on campus. In addition, we invite you to check the tournament blog Thursday night where we will post the preliminary round assignments.

Saturday evening we will announce the 16 teams advancing to the Public Forum Octo-Final as well as the Student Congress Super Session both at the tournament hotel and on the tournament blog. As the tournament progresses, your friends and family can see who is advancing by checking the blog which will be updated regularly throughout the tournament.

Extemporaneous Speaking:
Draw will take place in Thompson 138. We ask that extempers be cognizant of the fact that over 120 competitors will participate in the event: please be courteous when claiming space in the prep room with your extemp files.

The final round of Extemporaneous Speaking will feature a 3 minute cross-examination period that follows the guidelines established by the NFL.

Round Robin Exhibition:
On Friday, GMU will host the 3rd annual Extemporaneous Round Robin and 2nd annual Dramatic Performance Round Robin. The top two speakers in each will perform in an exhibition round on Sunday evening following the last final round of the main tournament but immediately before awards in Dewberry Hall. We invite students, coaches, judges, and spectators to watch the exhibition rounds of both and vote on a Round Robin champion! We would be honored to have you join us!

Food:
The tournament will provide lunch and dinner on Saturday, breakfast and lunch on Sunday, and refreshments and snacks both days for all school judges and coaches. Students can find many on campus options including our new cafeteria style dining hall called Southside, restaurants in the Johnson Center and Sub I, as well as other assorted options scattered throughout campus.
